Sketchabilities #143

Hi everyone,

Today I have a layout to share with you for Sketchabilities Sketch #143.  Another amazing sketch this fortnight and I enjoyed taking part again.  I have been subbing to the Hip Kit Club scrapbooking kits for awhile now and I have so much lovely new product that I am dying to use so I thought taking part in a few challenges would be a good way to go. Here is the sketch:
143And here is my take:Sketchabilities 143This layout is of some cheeky girls at Petra’s 5th birthday.  Gosh the girls are growing up! Gotta love the silly faces…I have used a mixture of the May and June Hip Kits to create my layout.  Here are some close ups:

Sketchabilities #142

Hi,

I’m up to date with most of my DT work at the moment so I thought I would get out my recent June kit from the Hip Kit Club and play along with a Sketchabilities sketch #142.

Sketchabilities July 13

I just LOVE all the summery colours in the June Kit and the Pool Side Ephemera is to so much fun to use – perfect for layering up of embellishments.  Makes me wish it was summer here in NZ.  Well right now when it is freezing  most things make me wish it was summer!!  Even though my photo is actually a photo taken in Winter here in NZ – I loved the bright colours and the sentiments of ‘Hello there sunshine” was perfect for my youngest child.  I love switching up themes to make them work for me. I do have some summer photos left to scrap which would also be perfect for this kit.

Lil Piggies

Morning,

Just sharing my layout for Sketchabilities sketch #133. Its a super cute sketch with lots of white space which I loved.

133I flipped it over and as I had more landscape photos and used a gorgeous colour combo of gold navy and pink with a hint of kraft!!  This is Aimee and Indigo at Paint the Earth painting their money boxes.  They both loved doing all the painting and we then we went out for a hot chocolate and fluffy afterwards.  It was nice to spend some time just one on one with Aimee and her little friend.

Sketchabilities #117

Yep, just churning out blog posts today!  I have a few things to share and not much time to blog about them so here is another layout I created using the June Crazy Monday Kit plus some Simple Stories Daily Grind collection.  I took these photos of the pairs of us on the bus at the start of the Hobbiton tour.  One adult to each child worked out perfectly… the girls loved just being on the bus and seeing various farm animals out the windows… so easily pleased lol.  I really liked how the strip of patterned paper from the Daily Grind collection as it fitted perfectly with the trip itself… being out and about with family, going on an adventure and experiencing new things!

It was based on this sketch which I have flipped around to use a portrait style photo.

Sketchabilities #116

Happy Sunday everyone,

I created a layout for the latest sketchabilities sketch #116 yesterday – although I missed the deadline but I thought I would share it anyway! I love Karan’s sketches… this one has lots of layers which I just love and a square photo which I find I scrap a lot lately as I tend to print out my instagram photos to scrap more now.  Here is the sketch:

116And my take:

SketchabilitiesJuneI really wanted to keep the colour palette on my layout pretty and soft.  I love working with a tone on tone colour palette when I can restrict myself.  I usually end of starting off this way but more colour just keeps adding itself to the page. I am pleased with the restraint I managed here as I really feel it means you can focus on the photo!  This photo was taken when we were at Hahei over the summer at the Rope Swing at the campground.  This summer just been Taylor always wanted to go and swing on the rope swing… although it was always a quick swing then off to a new adventure !!  Until the next time she requested to go to the ‘rope swing’!

I have used a mixture of my Studio Calico Scrapbook Camelot Kit and the same Heidi Swapp 6×4 inch paper pad that I used on my ‘this is awesome’ layout.  I love how there is bright and subtle colours on this paper pack. I combined it with some Heidi Swapp embellies too.  The cut file is of the XOXO is a cut from Jessy Christopher  which I have cut but then just used the corner of it and filled the back with some Neapolitan pretty washi tape.

Sketchabilities #114

Hi,

Back today with a layout share (another retreat one) for the latest Sketchabilities sketch:

sketchabilities #114 My take:  I loved editing my photos of my iphone first and instagramming them. I find it makes it so much easier to print them out on my Selphy.  I like adding frames and scrapping square photos right now too.  Down in Browns Bay there is a famous icecream gelato shop which does really reasonably priced icecreams for the kids. When we go to the beach we usually head down to Penguinos for an icecream before heading home.  The kids all love playing in the ride on toy outside the shop and this is photo of them ALL inside.  Not sure how much longer they will fit in there to be honest.

I have used my CMK – January Kit for this layout. Love the Studio Calico Print Shop papers for pops of colour and the Alison Kreft Instaframes to add a bit of black to mirror my instagram frame on my photo. Sketchabilties114

I enjoy creating layouts for Sketchabilities although I do admit that I struggle with the distressed factor sometimes!  To create the background I have found that if I paint my background in a bit of white gesso first it allows the colours to ‘pop’ more than if I just mist on the background (got this little tip blog hopping one day but now can’t recall where I read it!).  I then add mist to the background and to get it to drip down the page I then spray some water directly on top of the mist and then hold up the cardstock to allow the mist ‘to drip’ down the page.  It’s lots of fun!  First I think I have finely sprayed some pink Heidi Swapp mist in Rose and then followed by the Heidi Swapp Orange Mist on top of this.

Sketchabilties #113

Hi again,

Right first layout share from the weekend!  I decided to do the latest sketchabilities sketch – which I just loved the cute little Polaroid frames around the photos on this one. This is the sketch:

sketchabilities #113 and my take:Sketchabilities113Sketchabilities113 detail 2 Sketchabilities113 detail 1 Sketchabilities113 detailI just had to scrap this photo of Aimee’s favourite shoes EVER.  Like she refuses to wear anything else. Usually they are on the wrong feet – obviously not in this photo which is unusual.   I think they are great because she can quite happily put them on by herself!

On my layout I have used a mix of Maggie Holmes plus the April Scrapbooking and Project Life kits from Crazy Monday Scrapbooking.  Can I just say these were a life saver for me when I was at Autumn Escape.  I know I have said it before but these kits truly save me time and also money.  I don’t think I could have done 12 layouts without having these trusty little gems to make life easier for me. I have also mixed the kits in with my favourites from my stash too so you don’t just have to restrict yourself to kits.   At the retreat we also took the silhouette cameo and I was about to buy a cute little instax frame cut when I thought hang on I could easily make that myself.  So I made the cute little frame and the little camera cut out was from a Studio Calico digital stamp set that I traced and cut out as well using both the negative and positive images on my page.

At the retreat, Natalie May did a make and take using the  very cool Heidi Swapp Color Shine which is what I have used to colour some of my chevron cut files.  I love how the colours of these mists ‘pop’ more than the other mists I have.  I few of these mists MAY have been added to my collection over the weekend and boy was there was a shopping frenzy when these came out.

Thanks so much for stopping by today.  I really love my cameo and how I can add extra touches to my layouts with words, frames and cut images.  Do you have a particular tool or thing that you just love using on your layouts?

More woodgrain

Can a girl really have too much  wood grain pattern paper?  Well this girl is seriously using up her stash!!

Today I am sharing a layout for Sketchabilities challenge #111.

Sketchabilities 111

Another layout of Nicole and myself at the color run.  This time the aftermath.  Believe it or not we have actually been through the cleaner to get rid of access colour (aka a giant leaf blower so not that effective at all).  Then on our way back to our gear, this guy just opened a pack of PURPLE color and flung it around and it hit Nicole full on and she was covered in purple!

If you are interested: the background wood grain paper is from Kaisercraft.  I have matted my photo using several layers of papers from the Crazy Monday March Kit, the Scallop Canvas Cut is from D-lish Scraps.  The grey card is from the Fitfh & Frolic project life kit.  The LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE and cut out hearts come from a digital cut file available at Two peas by iheartstudio and the feathers diecuts were cut using my Silhouette Cameo and then outlined in black pen.

Playground!

The kids got a playground as a joint present this Christmas just been (2013).  It is really more aimed at the girls level but Liam does get on it occassionally!  It was a huge mission getting the playground down the side steps and installed in the backyard but this layout shows the kids having their first turn on the new structure!

This layout is for sketchabilities latest challenge.

Sketchabilities 109

Little details:Sketchabilities 109 detail 2 Sketchabilities 109 detail 1 Sketchabilities 109 detailIt was so nice to scrap multi photo for a change.  I really dont do that ENOUGH.  I enjoyed making the background with my mists and texture paste and mask too.  I really like how the journalling on the clear dymo tape is subtle and you can see the background through it.

Thanks for stopping by my blog today!

Sketchabilities

Hi again,

I have been eyeing up the sketches over there for a little while thinking they look like a whole lot of fun.  But honestly, it has just been a little crazy around here that scrap time for me has been quite limited.  I literally have stacks of pretty things starting to pile up that I haven’t had time to use. Shhh don’t tell Gary about that!

I have been dying to get out the Maggie Holmes Flea Market and this sketch just seemed perfect for the occasion.

#102 SketchabilitiesYou really can’t have too much Maggie on one page can you?  Here is my take on the sketch.  I love love love the sentiments on this patterned paper which worked perfectly for my photos.  I also slightly moved the sketch to the right rather than the left and side of the page. Sketchabilities102

I had fun creating and distressing my background.  First, I used my pink and gold gelatos to create a border around the edge of the patterned paper … I used the gelatos directly onto the paper and then the little brush with water to melt the colour a little bit so it wasn’t so harsh.  Next I used the pink gelato and applied it to the edge of a glass jar to create the circles on my background as well.  Lastly I applied the gelato colour directly to the dauber and stamped some spots randomly on my page.  I also added pink and gold mister huey mist splatters!

Some details:

How cute are these little stitched embellies… these are definitely a fav of mine. Sketchabilities102 detail 2Sketchabilities102 detail 3 Sketchabilities102 detail 4I also discovered the the gelatos worked amazingly well to colour my embellishments to alter them.  I have used the pink gelato on the canvas cut butterfly and also my cameo cut above.  I also used some of the flea market PL mini kit to layer behind my string of photos at the top. The little pegs are so cute and are left overs from my Pier stash.
Sketchabilities102 detailThanks so much for stopping by today.  I really enjoyed playing along with this sketch.  I hope you have enjoyed reading about how I put together my layout.
