Chocolate Caramel Slice

I have been meaning to share some of my favourite recipes on my blog for awhile now. But never quite managed to find the time to actually post them.

This recipe is one that I got from a really good friend when we were teenagers. It was the one recipe that my other used to groan and moan about being a pain to undertake. I think that is because I’m not the tidiest cook around and I used to make a big mess in the kitchen!!

Chocolate Caramel Slice

ingredients
Base
125g butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
1 1/4 cup flour
1 tbsp cocoa
A dash salt
1 tsp baking powder

Centre
75g butter
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 tin sweetened condensed milk
2 tbsp flour

method

Turn oven on to 180 degrees Celsius. Grease a 30cm x 20cm tin.

Base
Beat the butter and sugar and egg well
Sift in flour, cocoa, salt, and baking powder and mix well
Spread evenly in tin (the mixture is quite sticky so I use a little flour to press it into the tin)
Bake for approx 15 mins until brown
Take it out but leave the oven on

Centre
I melt the centre ingredients whilst the base is cooking
Melt butter, flour, condensed milk and brown sugar in a saucepan until runny.
Spread over the base and return to the oven.
Turn the oven off now and leave in the oven for a further 10 mins

Ice the caramel slice when the base is cool and the caramel is set!

I will try and upload a photo of the end result… I think I managed to get one before we ate it all.
